The Lake Shake @ Upper Campus

It's almost here! The Lake Shake starts next Monday, April 3 with Rounds 1 and 2 for fifth grade students.

The Lake Shake is a competition that puts our students' soft skills, ability to think on their feet, and social etiquette to the test. This 4-day event begins at Lake Carolina Upper Campus and will eventually lead to Columbia as well as out of state. There are 6 rounds to this competition and at the end of each round the number of contestants dwindles.

We will keep you posted throughout the competition. Good luck fifth grade students and thanks to everyone that is involved with this special event!

Lower Campus Facility Dog Update

We are pleased to announce that Lake Carolina Lower Campus will be receiving its very own facility dog from PAALS, which will be kept in Susan Woodley’s class! There are many benefits to having a facility dog on our campus such as:

  • · Encourages children to come to school
  • · Promotes positive behavior (confidence & responsibility)
  • · Promotes reading
  • · Teaches social skills
  • · Teaches acceptance
In an effort to continue raising funds, we would like to celebrate your special pet(s) by displaying their pictures. You may bring in one picture for $3 or more than one picture for a $5 donation. Please write your student’s name and pet’s name on the back of each picture and turn into your child’s teacher. If you would like to honor a neighbor or family member’s pet, you can do this too! Paw prints or dog bones will be available for $2 each and will be used to display the pet’s name you would like to honor.

The class in each grade level with the most donations will receive a Popsicle party and extra recess time. We are looking forward to working together to make this a big success!

Send in pictures and donations until March 17.

For more information on our Facility Dog please visit:  https://www.paals.org/susan-woodley/

Here is a brief video of one of the PAALS dogs working in Mrs. Woodley's classroom.

Important Information on Later Gators and Summer Gators

Last summer, we did not hold our Summer Gator Program because we do not have a high enough participation rate in the past to fund the program.

We want to let our families know that we will not have a summer program this year so you have an opportunity to align child care as needed.

This year's Later Gator Program will end Tuesday, May 30th.  Registration for the 2017-18 school year will open after Spring Break.

Attendance

Parent Reminder: Any time your student is absent from school for the entire school day, please email Caroline Hisaw (Lower campus) or Angie Simpson (Upper campus).  This will verify the absence and prevent parents from receiving absence phone calls that evening.
