101st Day in Second Grade

Second graders enjoyed learning about cause and effect, counting money, measuring with dog bones and paws as well as some fact and opinion writing, all with a dog themed twist. They even created their own Dalmatian Plantation with well over 101 puppies (aka students)!

Gullah Guest Speaker

Ms. Gervonder Brown, a Charleston native, spoke to the 3rd grade students about the history of the Gullah culture. Third graders have been studying the history of the Carolina Colony and how the Gullah language is a mixture of African languages and English.

Students learned about the Gullah dialect and learned a few words and phrases like "crack 'e teet", "anudduh", "ansuh", "chillun", and "mek yo mannus". Ms. Brown also shared Gullah stories about the Geechie people and shared how a sweetgrass basket is made. As a finale, Ms. Brown taught the students a Gullah song!

2nd Grade Economics

Our second graders have been busy learning about economics. They even worked as producers and consumers! Students created an assembly line to produce: a winter mix, holiday cookies, chocolate bark, coco and build a snowman kits. Then they could shop the various stores in their classrooms to spend the money they earned working in the factories.

First Grade Football Friday

Our first graders enjoyed a day of being immersed in football! They dressed in their favorite team gear and ventured into a transformed room with all things football. Students worked on math facts, ending punctuation, synonyms, football facts and even made predictions about who would win the Super Bowl! We will have to wait and see if their predictions are right. Good luck!

Middle School Job Shadowing Day

We were thrilled to have so many middle school students from Richland Two schools at both campuses today for job shadowing.
