Month of Military Child Spirit Week-Friday

Today is Purple Up day and the last day of our Spirit Week! It has been wonderful seeing our school community's support of our military students!

Our last challenge is for you to wear purple! Wearing purple is a visible way to show support and thank military youth for their strength and sacrifices. Purple indicates that all branches of the military are supported; Air Force blue, Army green, Navy blue, Marine red, and Coast Guard blue all thought to combine together as a single color, purple.

Thank you for your support and participation in this week's events!

Email your picture to jskinner@richland2.org and feel free to post your pictures on your own social media too using the hashtags #R2MilConnected and #MOMC.

All of the pictures from this week are at Month of the Military Child.

Information on Grading, Instructional Packets, and eLearning

Thank you for your patience while our district’s instructional leaders used the guidance from the South Carolina Department of Education to formulate a plan to count e-learning/remote learning toward the completion of the second semester of the 2019-2020 school year. The information below outlines how all elementary schools in Richland Two will use the e-learning/remote learning assignments to assess students’ progress. In these unprecedented times, our focus remains on student progress and learning. Teachers will continue to offer appropriate grade-level instruction while being flexible and considerate of each family’s unique circumstances.

Grades
  1. Report cards will not be issued for the third-nine weeks. The third-nine weeks grades listed in Parent Portal should now be considered as interim reporting on your student’s performance through the midpoint of the second semester. If you need help logging into Parent Portal, please email Mrs. Johanna Potter at jpotter@richland2.org for Lower Campus OR Mrs. Gawrys at mgawrys@richland2.org for Upper Campus.
  2. The third- and fourth-nine weeks will now be counted as one grading period for the second semester.
  3. PreK – first grade: Students will receive a “Satisfactory” or “Needs Improvement” in English/language arts and math for the second semester. Students will not receive a grade in related arts.
  4. Second-Fifth grades: Students will receive a “Pass” or “Not Pass” in English/language arts and math for the second semester. Students will not receive a grade in Related Arts.
E-learning/Remote Learning Assignments

  • The remote learning work assigned to students for March 19-April 9, and the e-learning/remote learning assignments starting on April 20 will count toward a child’s progress in their classes.
  • The instructional packets will be collected when we return to school in May. If the school closure is extended beyond April 30, we will announce plans for a safe collection of the work similar to how we distributed the packets. For now, please keep your child’s work in a safe place.

Spirit Week for Military Kids

Help LCE honor our military-connected students by participating in our Month of the Military Child spirit week between April 20-24 and celebrate military kids. This week culminates with Purple Up Day on Friday, April 24!

Military children face many challenges that are unique to their situation--such as having a parent deployed for extended periods of time and moving frequently.

Be sure to send in your pictures to jskinner@richland2.org so that we can all share in the fun and gratitude we have for our military community.

View pictures from this week at Month of Military Child 2020.
