Wear a Hat Day

Students at Upper Campus supported the Richland Two Teacher Forum's Teacher Cadet Scholarship Fund by donating $1.00 to wear a hat today. Thanks for your donations!

Harvest Day in Kindergarten

Our kindergarten students had a morning filled with a lot of hands on learning opportunities. Students came to school dressed as farmers, ready to harvest their crops! Students rotated through different classrooms doing a variety of activities. They rolled pumpkins, measured and stamped apples, sequenced the events of a story they acted out, danced to fall songs, used a ten frame to count objects for a fall mix, tasted pumpkin seeds and more! What a fun learning experience for these gators!

Boosterthon Starts Next Week

We are less than a week away from kicking off our Lake Carolina Boosterthon fundraiser! Next Wednesday, October 24th, our 10-day fundraising program will begin, and we are super excited! We will start with a Pep Rally at each campus, and then your family will have time to collect pledges. Every student will participate in the LCE Fun Run at the end of Boosterthon.

This year, our goal is to raise $40,000 for school improvements and to offset the cost of field studies. We will need EVERYONE’S help! Please begin to think about friends and family who could pledge your student for the LCE Fun Run. We want this to be fun and easy for everyone, so think of others who can support your student as they run laps to help our school. Look for a pledgebook to come home next Wednesday with more information.

And don’t forget to save the Fun Run Date—Friday, November 2nd—on your calendar. You are invited to come out and cheer on our students. More details to come.

Thank you for supporting Lake Carolina Elementary and have a great weekend!

Boosterthon is Coming!

LCE Gator Families...

For our fundraiser this year, the PTO will be hosting a Boosterthon Fun Run. The Fun Run is a two-week program that kicks off with a Pep Rally on October 24th. The amazing and energetic Boosterthon staff will be on our campuses daily to help get students and staff excited and ready for the run. The Fun Run will take place on November 2nd for both campuses. Students will be asked to seek out sponsors who will provide donations based on the number of laps the student completes. Our goal this year is for both campuses to raise a combined total of $40,000. This money will be used to help offset field study costs, purchase classroom supplies and help towards other school improvements.

This year’s fun run theme is MINDSPARK MYSTERY LAB. This is Boosterthon’s most exciting theme yet; it combines S.T.E.A.M. concepts (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) and provides students with an opportunity for character and personal development. The MindSpark Kids will help students solve mysteries and also to develop the leadership characteristics we have been learning about this year.

Parents can help the PTO by assisting your student(s) in gathering pledges. The Boosterthon staff will be providing incentives along the way to help motivate staff and students to gather donations. Families are welcome to attend the Fun Run as a spectator and help cheer on our students to celebrate the hard work from the previous two weeks. The PTO hopes this will be an amazing event for our students, teachers, staff and families! More exciting information to come!

School Closing: Thursday, October 11

Richland School District Two is canceling school on Thursday, October 11, 2018. All schools and offices will be closed, and all school and district activities are canceled. No changes are being made to Wednesday’s schedule.

Hurricane Michael is expected to impact the Midlands beginning early Thursday morning. The forecast calls for possible tornadoes and flash flooding as well as sustained winds ranging from 25-35 mph and gusts to 50 mph. Winds of 30 mph or greater pose a serious safety risk to school buses.

Again, Richland Two is canceling school and all activities on Thursday, October 11.

Box Tops Due Friday

Box tops are due this Friday, October 12th! This is our first of several Box tops contests for the school year. The class at each campus that collects the most will win extra recess time! Get your Box tops in and earn money for our school and extra recess for your student!!!

Rescheduled: Walk and Bike to School

The Walk and Bike to School event planned for tomorrow has been rescheduled to Wednesday, October 17 due to possible inclement weather.

Hurricane Michael and its possible impact on the Midlands

October 9, 2018 @ 12:00PM: District administrators are monitoring Hurricane Michael and its possible impact on the Midlands area of South Carolina after it makes landfall in Florida. We receive regular weather updates from the Emergency Services Department of Richland County. Unsafe travel conditions for school buses as well as our employees, parents and student drivers may prompt delays or cancellations later this week. No decision has been made at this time. Please continue to monitor your email as well as the district’s website for updates.

Lower Campus Flood Donations

Don't forget to send in donations for the Chesterfield County flood victims. Tomorrow is the last day. We will package up the donations and send them to those in need. Thank you so much to everyone that has helped! Our community is amazing!

Disability Sensitivity Training

All new students to Lake Carolina Upper Campus and third graders participated in disability sensitivity training today. The training involves each student rotating through stations that simulate various disabilities. Volunteers run each station to help the students "experience" the disabilities and classroom teachers follow-up with classroom discussions.

Many thanks to
our school counselor, Mrs. Skinner, for organizing this training and a very special thanks to the volunteers today.
