School Schedule for October 19-21

School will start on a one-hour delay on MondayTuesday and Wednesday (October 19-21). Students should report to the bus stop or school one hour later than the normal time.
Wednesday, October 21, will not be an early release day for elementary and middle schools.
Schools will start on a one-hour delay and dismiss at regular time, just like the schedule for Monday and Tuesday. Also on Wednesday, high schools will start on the same one-hour delay schedule as Monday and Tuesday.
As originally scheduled, students will not attend school on Thursday, October 22 and FridayOctober 23.
We greatly appreciate your patience, as we work to get students back to as close to a regular schedule as possible. Safety continues to be our top priority. Almost all of our buses (100 out of 114) are still traveling on adjusted routes due to numerous road closures. The delay allows us to run all bus routes during daylight hours and avoid some traffic congestion caused by multiple detours. Please, do not drive around or move any barricades.
After Wednesday, we will re-assess road conditions, traffic patterns and congestion, and route times to determine the best course of action going forward. We will notify families on Thursday or Friday of next week about the schedule for October 26–30.
If the one-hour delay creates a hardship for families, limited staff will be available so that schools can open their doors at the normal time.
The informational page about the delay on our website has been updated. Click here to access that page. If you know of a family who does not have Internet access at home, please help us share this information with them. They can visit a Richland Library branch, where computers and Internet access are available.
Thank you for working with us as we strive to operate safely.

Service Learning Project for 2015-16

Due to the recent flooding in our state and the devastation that many around us are facing, Lake Carolina Elementary will participate in a yearlong Service Learning Project focused on helping those in our nearby communities. Each month we will focus on a specific need and collect items for those needing support.

We will kick off our project by collecting school supplies during the month of November.

Additionally, our district is collecting items to assist our Richland Two Back Pack/Food Pantry program. They are seeking specific donations from each campus to help those impacted by the flood. Richland Two is asking Lower Campus to collect muffin and cornbread mixes and Upper Campus to collect boxes of rice and pasta. Please consider adding these items to your grocery list as we will continue to collect them throughout the year.

Stay tuned for more information to come. As always, thank you for your support of our school and community.

Richland Two Update for Week of October 12

Beginning, Monday, Oct. 12, school will start on a two-hour delay. This delay will last at least through the week. Three-year old half-day classes are canceled when we are on a two-hour delay.
A two-hour delay means:
If your school normally starts at 8, it will now start at 10 a.m. Dismissal times remain the same.

Pick-up times at bus stops are also pushed back by at least two hours. Due to the numerous road closures, multiple bus routes have been adjusted. Information on changes to bus routes and other information about the delay is availalbe on our website. Click here to access that information.

There will be bus delays. Please be patient and safe. There will be congestion on roads due to multiple road closures. Remember, do not drive around or move any barricades. Families of car riders and student drivers, make sure to check your route to school. Click here to access maps showing road closures.
Breakfast will be available and lunch will be served. For schools impacted by the boil-water advisory, bottled water will be provided.
If the two-hour delay creates a hardship for families, limited staff will be available so that schools can open their doors at the normal time.
To assist the Richland Two community, we have set up an informational page about the delay on our website. Click here to access that page. If you know of a family who does not have Internet access at home, please help us share this information with them. They can visit a Richland Library branch, where computers and Internet access are available.
Returning to a familiar routine after a natural disaster is important for our students. As always safety is our number one priority. Thank you for working with us as we strive to get our students back in school safely.
If you have questions that are not answered with the information on the website, please call 803-738-3233 and leave a message. That line will be checked multiple times over the weekend.

Sincerely,
Libby Roof
Chief Communications Officer

School Improvement Council Update

Mrs. Irisha Gist is interested in serving SIC on the Lower Campus. Please read her bio below and respond with the ballot.

I am Irisha B. Gist. I am a widowed mother to a vivacious first grader at Lake Carolina Elementary named Abrielle Gist. I grew up in Kingstree, South Carolina and graduated from Kingstree Senior High school in 1997. I attended the University of South Carolina, and obtained my Doctorate of Pharmacy in 2003. I am currently employed with Palmetto Health Richland as a Clinical pharmacist specializing in Adult Medicine. I am an active member of Journey Church and in my spare time I enjoy watching movies, reading, and traveling. I have been very active at Abrielle’s previous school; participating in the Parent Organization and as classroom mom. This is our first year at Lake Carolina, and I look forward to the opportunity to participate with the School Improvement Council.

Save the Date!

The Boosterthon Fun Run is LCE's only fundraiser this year! This will be a nine day program that will kick off with a pep rally on Tuesday, October 20. Students will then begin to collect pledges for every lap they run at the fun run. We will celebrate at the Fun Run on Thursday, October 29.

During Boosterthon, students will learn about building character through Big World Recess, a global fitness theme all about playing with character.

Donations will go to both LCE campuses. Our big goal is to raise funds for a variety of school improvements. Please help us by reaching out to sponsors.

Families are invited to come out and cheer on their student(s) at the Fun Run! Thank you for your support!
