From the Nurse's Office
Here’s some helpful advice from the Mayo Clinic…
Most people get chapped lips from time to time. There's much you can do to treat — and prevent — chapped lips. Consider these tips:
• Protect your lips. Before going out in cold, dry weather, apply a lubricating lip cream or balm that contains sunscreen — and then cover your lips with a scarf. Reapply often while outdoors.
• Avoid licking your lips. Saliva evaporates quickly, leaving lips drier than before you licked them. If you tend to lick your lips, avoid flavored lip balm — which may tempt you to lick your lips even more.
• Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of fluids, and moisten the air in your home with a humidifier.
• Avoid allergens. Avoid contact with irritants or allergens, such as fragrances or dyes, in cosmetics or skin care products.
• Breathe through your nose. Breathing through your mouth can cause your lips to dry out.
If chapping is severe and doesn't respond to treatment at home, consult your doctor. Rarely, persistent chapped lips may indicate an underlying problem.

Service Learning at Upper Campus
LCEU's Student Lighthouse Team has planned our first service learning project of the school year to be a non-perishable food drive. Our collected food will go to families in need in Lake Carolina and to Spring Valley High School's Winter Wishes, which supports Harvest Hope Food Bank.
The class with the most food items collected at the end of the drive will win a pizza party!
Our school is also helping with world hunger by participating with freerice.com, a site owned and supported by the United Nations World Food Programme. Freerice offers educational review with practice of things like math facts and vocabulary review. Each correct answer earns 10 grains of rice to be donated to people in need across the globe. Ten correct answers equals a bowl of free food!
Please support our Service Learning Project by sending in non-perishable food items such as peanut butter, canned soups, canned vegetables, ramen noodles, boxed pasta, and cereal until Monday, December 10 and visiting freerice.com.
Thank you!

Boosterthon Fun Run
Our Fun Run was a huge success and everyone had a blast! The rain held out until our last group of runners, the fifth grade, were finishing up their last few laps.
Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers who helped with the water stations and also to our wonderful parents who came out to cheer on our students.
Special thanks to our spectacular Boosterthon teams who have worked tirelessly at both campuses to motivate, teach and entertain our students for the past 10 days. We will certainly miss having them on our campuses.
We have raised $36,000 so far and we are so grateful for all of your support. We will continue to accept pledges throughout the weekend with hopes to reach our school goal of $40,000. Any student who gets a pledge of $2 per lap will receive an exciting prize on Monday. And don’t forget, if we reach that $40,000 goal, the top student in each grade will get to SLIME their principal!
So keep those pledges coming and have a great weekend! Go Gators!
