Schedule Change and Water Line Update

Dear Parents--

We have received word that the City of Columbia has repaired the water line and is in the process of adjusting water pressure back to normal. The area will be under a boil water advisory for up to three days. During this time, we will continue to operate school with the adjustments we put in place today.

Restroom facilities are operational except students and staff can’t wash their hands using the sinks. Therefore, we will continue to provide hand sanitizer.

Until the advisory is lifted, bottled water will be available and bagged lunches will be served.

For students in grade levels 3 through 5, the updated test schedule is below:

Wednesday, May 15 - SC Ready ELA Day 1
Thursday, May 16 - SC Ready ELA Day 2
Tuesday, May 21 - SC Ready Math
Wednesday, May 22 -SC PASS for 4th and 5th graders only

Thank you for your patience and support while we make these adjustments to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for our students and staff.

Upper Campus School Garden

LCEU has been awarded a grant from the SC Department of Education in partnership with Clemson Extension's School Gardening for SC Educators. The grant supplied all of the materials to start a 4 bed raised garden. Students will learn the process of planting, growing, harvesting and preparing foods they can eat.

Today was our first harvest day and many students were able to enjoy picking, washing, and eating the fruits of their labor. We enjoyed garden fresh arugula and salad bowl lettuce. Students were excited to actually eat the vegetables and experience the different flavors of each item. We will be planting sweet potato and peas for the summer and will enjoy the harvest of those items in the fall when we return back to school.

We will be growing more varieties of plants each year and we were excited to see and taste our hard work in our school garden!
