Richland Two Cell Phone Policy

Dear Parents,

LCE Upper Campus students are allowed to have cell phones at school as long as they remain in book bags. We realize that it may be necessary for students walking or riding bikes to and from school to have a phone for safety reasons. However, the phones may not be used for any reason during the school day. Please see below for a summary of the district's school board policy JICJ regarding electronic communication devices.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Elementary school students may not use or display cellular phones, beepers and pagers while on school property during school hours.

Consequences:
•   first offense - warning/confiscate device and return to student at the end of the school day
•   second offense - confiscate device/return to parent/legal guardian
•   third offense - confiscate device/return device to parent/legal guardian and privilege to have device is revoked for the remainder of the school year
•   fourth offense - confiscate device/return at the end of the school year

Uniform shirt colors are: hunter green, navy blue, burgundy, or white

Info from Blythewood Middle School

Blythewood Middle School is having their annual BMS Pathways to Success on Thursday, April 20th at 6:00 p.m., beginning in the school gym. The previous orientation in January provided information for those families considering expanded choice, while this program will be focusing on making a successful transition for those students and their parents who will be attending Blythewood Middle this Fall.

You will learn about summer opportunities like the BMS JumpStart Camp, BMS Charger Pride Summer Enrichment and afterschool program, receive information about summer reading activity, 6th grade supply list, and information about enrichment offerings. Additionally, you will find out what Charger Kick-Off is all about and how you can receive information and keep in touch. The evening provides an opportunity to visit the 6th grade area classrooms and meet the teachers.

Our goal is to provide tools for a smooth transition from elementary school to the middle school. We are looking forward to meeting and working with you soon.

Vision & Hearing Screenings

Lower Campus: Tuesday, January 17
Upper Campus: Wednesday, January 18

The Lion's Club along with our school nurses will be conducting vision and hearing screenings. The Lion's Club uses the SPOT vision camera to detect vision issues at an early age. This is a new highly effective device that screens both eyes at once at a non threatening 3 foot distance. The camera can help detect several different disorders of the eye. If your child currently wears glasses or contacts, please make sure they bring/wear them on the scheduled screen day.

Please contact the school nurse by Friday, January 13th, if you DO NOT wish to have your child screened.  Thank you! Healthy children learn better!

Future Chefs Elementary Culinary Competition

The whole concept of the Sodexo Future Chefs Elementary Culinary Competition is to help educate the children in HEALTHY EATING HABITS. Too often we hear about childhood obesity and kids not making the right choices in terms of their eating habits. That’s why we want kids to submit recipes for their favorite healthy comfort food!

Final judging will be based on:

  • Health Conscious Foods
  • Simple, Kid-friendly Preparation
  • Fun Kid-Foods
  • Judge’s Choice
  • Best Table Presentation
  • Bonus Ingredients used such as Whole Grain Pasta, Whole Grain Bread, Brown Rice, Low-Fat Cheese, Eggs, Lean Ground Beef, Turkey, Potatoes & Mushrooms

Students in 4-5 grades complete recipe form and turn them into teachers. Teachers will collect the recipe form and give them to their cafeteria manager.

Cafeteria Managers will submit all completed recipes to the Support Services Center no later than Thursday, February 2, 2017.

A panel of my colleagues will narrow down recipes to one student per school.

The finalists will be formally invited to a Culinary Competition “Cook-Off” on
Thursday, March 16, 2017 tentatively scheduled for 4:00PM.

All Finalists will receive medals, t-shirt, apron and hat.

Local press will be invited to take pictures of the kid’s creations, parents and
teachers can view (and taste!) the final product from 6-7 PM on March 16.

Transportation will not be provided for the competition. Students will need to be
dropped off by 4PM/picked up by 7PM at R2i2.

Safety issues and staff supervision: Each group of three students will have a kitchen
staff member assigned to them. This will ensure that safe food practices are
followed and no one is harmed.

Please let me know if I can answer any questions or concerns.
