R2 Community Conversations

Gullah Guest Speaker

She taught them how to greet each other in Gullah, sing traditional songs like I Done, Done What You Told Me to Do, a dance while singing Fanga Alafia Ashe! Ashe!, the tradition of the sweet grass basket, how to crab in the sea islands, and vocabulary words like "chillun" and "membua". She also is a storyteller and told a story about a fox and crow. February Service Learning Projects

Our Service Learning Projects for this school year have been focused on helping those in our community who have been affected by the October flood. Most recently, we've been collecting non-perishables. Thank you so much for giving to Harvest Hope Food Bank!

Starting in February, Lower Campus is sharing the “LOVE” of Reading!

Richland 2 has created a reading program called Ready to Read. The district’s goal is to collect enough books (roughly 35,000) to provide Preschool - 2nd grade students with ten new or gently used books for summer reading.

In order to accomplish this, we are asking Lower Campus students to donate new or gently used books for 12 district schools.  Please place them in the drop box near the Lake Carolina kiosk.

For the month of February, the LCE Upper Campus student body will write letters and create cards for the first responders in our area. These men and women devoted countless hours toward flood relief and continue to work on a daily basis to keep us safe. We will be making our cards here at school, but if you would like to participate at home as well, we will be happy to include your letters of gratitude with ours. We are excited to thank these local heroes and show our appreciation!

Dental Exams at Lower Campus

Message from Nurse Mishoe:
At the beginning of the school year, students were sent home with a blue sheet that parents were to fill out and return if they wanted their children to be seen by a dental hygienist here at the school. If you filled out one of these forms and sent it back to school with your child, they will be seen by Kelley Cato, Dental Hygienist next week. If you did not return the form with your child, and you are interested in your child being having an exam, please contact Nurse Mishoe and she will make arrangements for your child.
