Stuff the Duffle Delivery

See all pictures in Lake Carolina's Picasa Albums

The winners of the trivia contest for our 2nd Service Learning Project, Stuff the Duffle, spent the morning of March 12 delivering the 256 goodie bags to the USO at the Columbia airport and learning about the training process soldiers go through at Ft. Jackson before leaving for other military locations.

Several soldiers waiting for their flight in the USO talked with the students and answered their questions. The students were also given a tour of the airport that included walking out to the area where the airplanes park.

After leaving the airport, the students went to the U. S. Army Basic Combat Training Museum at Ft. Jackson. Four soldiers took the group on a tour of the museum to learn about the 8 weeks of basic training in the U. S. Army. It was a great tour because the soldiers shared their personal training experiences as they showed the students each section of the museum.

The students enjoyed a picnic lunch and some recess time on the playground at Ft. Jackson before returning to school.

Thank you for all your support of the Stuff the Duffle Service Learning Project and Lake Carolina Elementary!

Snowballs and Box Tops

The snowballs have been flying at LCE this winter! Our students, teachers and administrators all joined in to raise more than $900 for our school in our first-ever Box Tops snowball fight. The class in each grade level who threw the most snowballs won a cookie party.
  • Kindergarten - Ms. Jackson
  • 1st - Ms. Hobbs
  • 2nd - Mrs. Jackson
  • 3rd - Mrs. Knight
  • 4th - Mrs. Bequette
  • 5th - Mrs. Scriven
Mrs. Kelly Jackson's 2nd grade class won both the top thrower, with 72 snowballs, and the class hit with the most snowballs, with a whopping 83 snowballs! Mrs. Jackson's consolation prize for getting hit with so many snowballs was a silly, furry snowman hat.

Keep clipping Box Tops, Labels for Education and Tyson A+ Labels. We will have another contest before the end of the year. Way to go, Gators!
