101st Day in Second Grade

Second graders enjoyed learning about cause and effect, counting money, measuring with dog bones and paws as well as some fact and opinion writing, all with a dog themed twist. They even created their own Dalmatian Plantation with well over 101 puppies (aka students)!

Gullah Guest Speaker

Ms. Gervonder Brown, a Charleston native, spoke to the 3rd grade students about the history of the Gullah culture. Third graders have been studying the history of the Carolina Colony and how the Gullah language is a mixture of African languages and English.

Students learned about the Gullah dialect and learned a few words and phrases like "crack 'e teet", "anudduh", "ansuh", "chillun", and "mek yo mannus". Ms. Brown also shared Gullah stories about the Geechie people and shared how a sweetgrass basket is made. As a finale, Ms. Brown taught the students a Gullah song!
