October 9, 2018 @ 12:00PM: District administrators are monitoring Hurricane Michael and its possible impact on the Midlands area of South Carolina after it makes landfall in Florida. We receive regular weather updates from the Emergency Services Department of Richland County. Unsafe travel conditions for school buses as well as our employees, parents and student drivers may prompt delays or cancellations later this week. No decision has been made at this time. Please continue to monitor your email as well as the district’s website for updates.

Disability Sensitivity Training
All new students to Lake Carolina Upper Campus and third graders participated in disability sensitivity training today. The training involves each student rotating through stations that simulate various disabilities. Volunteers run each station to help the students "experience" the disabilities and classroom teachers follow-up with classroom discussions.
Many thanks to our school counselor, Mrs. Skinner, for organizing this training and a very special thanks to the volunteers today.

Lower Campus Monthly Reading Challenge
October Reading Challenge
This month, we will be having a pumpkin book character contest (some ideas are below). All participants will be entered in a drawing to Read with Ross. Students will also vote on their favorite pumpkin character during their media center time.
- Select a book character you want to create and read it the book together.
- Decorate, paint, glue, etc. Be creative, but please don’t carve it!
- Discuss and describe the character you want to create.
- You can use a real pumpkin or a fake pumpkin.
- Bring the pumpkin & matching book (library or personal) or a copy of the cover to display in the media center between October 15 and October 31.
- Pumpkins must be picked up on Friday, November 2.
High Five Friday
The Richland County Sheriff's Department was at Lower Campus today to greet students and encourage them to have a great day today. Students were so excited to give them hugs and high fives on their way into the building. What an awesome way to start the day! Thank you @RCSD for making these student's days.
