Caring for and Troubleshooting Chromebooks

The video and directions below address the regular care and troubleshooting of chromebooks. Signing out and powering off as well as removing unnecessary extensions improves the performance of the device.

Please check webpages at Lower CampusUpper Campus and/or Richland Two if you need additional online support during eLearning. Resources are added and updated periodically.

Sign Out/Shut Down: This procedure should be completed several times a week. Closing the lid of device places it in stand-by mode. Signing out and shutting down helps device receive updates and start "fresh" with the user's profile.
  • Click in area by clock in lower right of screen
  • In pop up window, choose Sign Out
  • Wait for device to go to profile/login screen
  • Choose to Shut Down from clicking button in lower left of screen or hold power button on keyboard until screen turns black and light on device turns off
Check to see if Chrome is up to date
  • Click the 3 dots in the top right corner
  • Click on Settings
  • In left column, choose About Chrome
  • If update is needed, you will restart when prompted
Clear Browsing Data and Cache
  • Click on the 3 dots in the top right corner
  • Click on Settings
  • Scroll down to Privacy and Security
  • Clear the browsing data for the last 7 days
